 Dear Crossing family and friends,

According to a recent survey, guess what the number one contemporary funeral song is?

 Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You? Number three.The theme from 'Titanic', My Heart Will Go On? Nope. That's number two.

The most popular is Wind Beneath My Wings, by Bette Midler.

So where are we going with this, exactly?

Well, we're in this series called Famous Amos. It's a study of the Old Testament book of Amos. And so far, this 'shepherd with an attitude' has been poking, prodding and making us generally uncomfortable.

But you have to give the guy credit--he knows how to get your attention! This Sunday Amos continues that creative mode: he starts off chapter five with a familiar funeral dirge, only he substitutes the nation of Israel for the name of the deceased:  

 The virgin Israel has fallen,

never to rise again!

She lies abandoned on the ground,

with no one to help her up.   

 After that, no surprise: lots of bad news. But in the midst of all the doom and gloom is a note of hope. Come this Sunday and we'll talk about it...
