You have emotional nails in your brain–hurts, wounds, betrayals. And while you’ve dealt with some, you pretend others aren’t there. But listen–you’re not supposed to have nails at all. And Jesus has the power to remove them!

1. In the message we heard the story of a man living six days with a nail in his brain without realizing it. What kind of emotional "nails" might people carry without realizing it's there?
2. Read and respond to our definition of unforgiveness:: "Unforgiveness is the persistent refusal to let go of resentment and anger toward someone who has caused harm."
3. The first point was that ‘Unforgiveness is unhealthy.’ Read Proverbs 14:30. Share a time you have seen (in yourself or others) the physical toll of carrying resentment. What are the mental/emotional effects of unforgiveness?
4. Research shows that forgiveness genuinely improves physical health. Why do you think so many of us choose to hold on to grudges anyway?
5. The second point was that ‘Unforgiveness is spiritually dangerous.’ Read Ephesians 4:26-27. What do you think it means that anger gives the devil "a foothold"? What might that foothold look like in someone's life?
6. Read 1 Peter 5:8. What does this verse teach us about spiritual reality? How does living in unforgiveness make a person more vulnerable to the "roaring lion"?
7. Read Hebrews 12:15 In what ways might unforgiveness grow and spread throughout a church family, ‘corrupting many’? How can we guard ourselves from this at The Crossing?
8. The third point was that ‘Unforgiveness is sin.’ In the message we distinguished between shame ("you’re just a bad human") and the deeper truth that unforgiveness closes a door between us and God. Why is that distinction important?
9. Read Mark 6:1-6. Jesus "couldn't do any miracles" in Nazareth—not because he lost power, but because of their unbelief and offense. What does this story teach about how our hearts can limit what God does in and through us?
10. We summarized that thought with this statement: ‘The condition of my heart determines the capacity of my soul.’ How could someone assess the condition of their heart? How would you assess the condition of your heart today? What can we do to increase our soul’s capacity to experience the peace, presence, and power of Jesus?
11. The message said 60% of people in a Barna study admitted currently struggling to forgive someone, and 23% said there's someone they simply can't forgive. Without naming names, where do you see yourself in those numbers?
12. Reflect: Where is there unforgiveness in your life and toward whom? What is one small but meaningful step you could take this week to open your heart to forgiving?
13. At the end we recommended this prayer: "Jesus, I believe, help my unbelief; I want to be willing; help me be willing." Why might starting with willingness—rather than forcing forgiveness—be a significant first step?
