Selling the Drama

Paul finally reveals to the Corinthians why there has been so much division and chaos in the church. He tells them that they are no longer sold out to the gospel message and instead have become sellouts to something very different. This isn’t just a Corinthian problem….it’s ours. So, have you been selling out your faith?

1. #1 The speaker opened with our tendency to see our preferences as the only right answer….so what are some hills that you’re willing to die on when it comes to your preferences? Food? Music? Travel? Vehicles? Sports teams? Etc?
2. #2 Read Romans 12:2. The speaker talked about the dichotomy between living sold out to Jesus and living as a sell out to this world. In what areas of your life do you find it the easiest to copy and conform to the ways of the world? And what are some areas that you have been sold out to Jesus? Your family? Your work? Entertainment? Friendships? Habits? What area do you sense God challenging to embrace some change and move from a sell out to sold out?
3. #3 Read 1 Corinthians 4:3-5 The speaker said, “A life sold out to Jesus seeks God’s approval, while a sellout lives for the approval of others. How has seeking approval from others affected your life? Read Galatians 1:10. Why do you think Paul says this? Read Galatians 1:11 Paul is telling us that seeking the approval of others can change the gospel message itself. Talk about a time that you’ve said or done something out of character, or compromised your faith to please someone else or to “not rock the boat”. How does the gospel call us to respond in these situations?
4. #4 Share what God has shown you to this Next Steps question. Who determines my identity? Who does God say I am? 1 John 3:1, 2 Corinthians 5:17, John 15:16, Romans 8:15, Ephesians 2:10, 1 Corinthians 6:19, Romans 5:8, Ephesians 1:7, Romans 8:1, 1 Corinthians 6:20, Hebrews 13:5, Isaiah 43:1.
5. #5 Read 1 Corinthians 4:9-13. The speaker said that a life sold out to Jesus is defined by humility, while the life of a sellout is marked by pride. Where has pride taken root in your life? How might pride keep us from living a Jesus shaped life?
6. #6 Read 1 Corinthians 4:18-20 The speaker said that a sold out life to Jesus walks the walk, while a sellout simply talks. So, do your words just say you follow Jesus, or does your life prove it? Talk about the Next Step question. Am I living in my own power, or through the power of God? Follow up: Do I walk the walk….or do I just talk? How do you know?
7. #7 Read Matthew 7:24-27 The speaker said, Kingdom living is ONLY possible through God’s power so we must Clothe ourselves with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. How are you clothing yourself with Christ? How can we do so more and more?
