2. READ the following passages; what does each teach us about the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives? John 16:8-11; Romans 8:15-16; Romans 8:26-27; Galatians 4:6; Galatians 5:22-23

3. Kendal mentioned that he loves to watch the Holy Spirit slowly open someone’s eyes to Jesus over months or years. What person, book, or moment did the Holy Spirit use to first open your eyes to who Jesus really is?

4. On Sunday we said, “Any time you understand a spiritual truth, any time a spiritual light bulb turns on, it’s because the Holy Spirit has opened your mind.” How could that change how you pray for someone you love who doesn’t yet follow Jesus?

Kurios, the Greek word for ‘Lord,’ was used for greetings (‘Mr.’), landowners, emperors (‘Nero is Lord’), and pagan gods (Lord Zeus, Lord Apollo)—but Jewish scholars also chose it to translate YHWH, the name of God in the Hebrew Old Testament. When Paul writes “Jesus is Kurios,” he’s saying Jesus is God in the flesh. Where in your life right now is Jesus still “Mr.,” or “Sir,” or maybe one option among many—but not yet functionally King?

6. READ 1 Cor 12:4-11 Two ideas are prominent here. First, there is a wide variety of gifts. Why do you think Paul stresses this point? Why might it be important to the Corinthians and to us?

7. On Sunday we mentioned that because each of Paul’s spiritual gift ‘lists’ differs, his point was likely not to make an exhaustive list of every possible spiritual gift, but to give some examples. (If time, look them up: 1 Cor 12:28-30, Romans 12:6-8, and Ephesians 4:11.) With that in mind, what do you think are your primary two three spiritual gifts? How has God used them in the past?

8. In the message we said that ‘The fact you are here is not an accident.’ God brought you to The Crossing to use your gifts–how do you think he might want to do that?

9. The second main idea here is that all spiritual gifts are given by the Holy Spirit. (Different gifts, same Spirit) Why do you think the Corinthians needed to be reminded of this truth? Why does it matter for us?

10. If there’s time, READ 1 Cor 12:12-31, which we did not get to on Sunday. What stands out to you here? How does it reinforce the truths we’ve already discussed? What new truths does it highlight? What questions do you have?

11. How do you need to respond to this passage? What action is God prompting you to take? How does it apply not only in our church, but in your daily life?
